De 1850 à 1870, nombreux sont les artistes qui ont séjourné à la ferme Saint-Siméon où l'aubergiste, Madame Toutain, hébergeait les voyageurs pour une somme modique, acceptant parfois une oeuvre en paiement. Parmi les peintres y ayant résidé, citons Corot, Courbet, Isabey, Millet, Daubigny, Lépine, etc.
Louis-Michel Hadengue était peintre et ami de Cals, qui fit un portrait de lui.
