Condition

In generally good overall condition, scuffs and abrasions to extremities consistent with age, carving bold and strong, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

This pair of beautiful doors displays a subtle yet bold design of elegant leafy poppy plants, a style of decoration typical of seventeenth-century Mughal art, which can be found in various other media, including the margins of paintings, in carved and inlaid stone, and in textile embroidery. A comparable pair of doors is in the David Collection, published in the exhibition catalogue Sultan, Shah, and Great Mughal, The National Museum, Copenhagen, 1996, pp. 311, 337, 338.
