Catalogue Note

Cette boîte à trésor wakahuia était destinée à conserver les ornements en néphrite et les plumes précieuses de l'oiseau huia, ornant la tête - sacrée - des chefs Maori. Suspendue au faîtage, elle offrait aux regards la beauté de la panse gravée du motif puwerwere en "toile d'araignée", encadré par des registres d'obliques parallèles, dont le mouvement aboutit aux deux têtes de tiki projetées en haut relief, en guise de poignées. Belle patine nuancée, brun rouge, profonde.
