Description

  • An Egyptian Wood Mummy Mask

  • Height 8 1/2 in. 21 cm.
from an inner anthropoid coffin, carved in a fine-grained hardwood, the oval face with finely outlined lips rounded at the corners,  long almond-shaped inlaid eyes with tapering cosmetic lines, and finely arched tapering eyebrows merging smoothly with the contour of the bridge of the nose, the central part of the wig and tenon for attachment above.

acquired by the present owner prior to 1981

Condition

Proper left side of the mask is restored in wood (probably in modern times), which includes the end of the left eyebrow (this restoration is visible as the darker area on the far right side of the photo). Note chipped nose and large area chipped away on the neck as well as scratches and minor cracks in the wood. Other minor chips and abrasions visible in the photograph.
