Description

  • A Bronze Portrait Head of a Man, Roman Imperial
  • bronze
  • Height 11 in. 28 cm.
from a life-size figure, with layered wavy beard and long moustache, finely shaped mouth, aquiline nose with flaring nostrils, large wide-set eyes with incised irises and dotted pupils, and thick deeply grooved eyebrows, his incised hair radiating from the crown in incised wavy locks, and framing the forehead in luxuriant overlapping wavy curls.

Condition

The lower back of head and nape of neck is pushed in. Some cracks, scratches, and holes.Two small holes on top of head, one of which is clearly a chaplet hole missing its plug. Superficial scratches and abrasions elsewhere. Tips of some locks of hair chipped. Otherwise very good and as shown.
