Condition

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: In order for this picture to be properly appreciated the restoration should be reexamined. The lining, which is adhered with wax, is no longer supporting the paint layer, particularly in the lower center. In the dark hillside above the dancing shepherdesses there is a complex break in the canvas which has been restored. Apart from a small restoration at the feet of the central shepherdess and one in the dress of the right hand shepherdess there do not appear to be any other restorations. If the lining were to be changed this retouching and the damage can be rendered invisible and would significantly improve what is otherwise a well preserved picture.
