Some very minor wear in painting and gilding, as visible from photograph. There is an old minor restoration beneath both scrolls on the top-rail where there has been some movement resulting in some hairline construction cracks which are not too noticeable. Seat rail strengthened beneath. Some losses to decoration to middle rear legs. The second from the left has been heightened. The rear back legs have been reblocked. Two of the middle legs at the back possibly replaced. In overall very good condition.

Catalogue Note

Comparative Literature:
G. Morazzoni, Il Mobile Veneziano del '700, Gorlich, Milan, 1958, Vol. I, Tav. LXXXI, for a similar carved sofa, formerly in the Pietro Accorsi, collection, Turin.
See also a related sofa from an exceptional suite sold from the collection of Charles de Beistegui, Palazzo Labia, Venice, sold Sotheby's, Milan, 18th October 2006, lot 98.

The rarity of this sofa is due in no small measure to the low height of the back, its exceptional length and intricate low relief carving.
