Description

  • tin, paint
A fine large First Series clockwork paddle steamer is a rarity even in Märklin circles. Far fewer of these large side-wheelers were produced than the more popular gunboats and ocean liners. Master brushstrokes in minute detail further distinguish this boat. The windows are framed, outlined, and display cascading drapes with gold tassels so realistic that one can nearly count the threads, all handsomely crazed with age. Märklin's best windows and portholes gave the illusion of depth, which allowed children and adults alike to walk through doorways or look into windows, as exhibited by this boat's first class cabins.  Other features include four gun emplacements on each side of the bow, two jauntily slanted stacks and two small lifeboats over hand-painted portholes on cream ground above red. Painted red below water line. Clockwork mechanism concealed in hull.
