of flattened rectangular form with shoulders sloping to a cylindrical neck, resting on a neatly carved oval foot, painted to the inside with ink and colors, each face depicting a maiden in a garden, one holding a large peony spray, the other with a chrysanthemum, inscribed with a cyclical date corresponding to Winter of 1905, signed Ye Zhongsan, followed by a seal of the artist yin

The women painted on the present bottle are reminiscent of those painted on a 1906 bottle by Ye Zhongsan, illustrated in Hugh Moss, Victor Graham and Ka Bo Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection, Hong Kong, 1995, Volume 4, Part 1, pp. 250-251, no. 529.
