Condition

Colours: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the overall tonality is brighter and more vibrant in the original work where the purple areas in the right side of the composition are in reality a royal blue. Condition: This work is in good condition. Close inspection reveals there are fine networks of stable craquelures scattered in places throughout the paint layer, some with raised edges. These are most apparent in the green paint of the centre left and lower left quadrant of the composition. Several faint rub marks are visible, notably one running parallel to the centre of the right edge; one immediately below left of this; one approximately 40cm beneath the centre of the top edge; one approximately 50cm to the right of this; and one to the centre of the lower left quadrant. There is a further rub mark with associated specks of paint loss to the lower left corner section. There are fine stable tension cracks running parallel to the bottom edge and there are two small areas of circular craquelures in the lower left quadrant. Several small white media accretions are adhering to the surface in the central composition. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals a few tiny spots of retouches in the extreme lower left corner and one small retouch of 1 cm along the extreme left edge situated 36 cm from the lower edge.
