Condition

Colours: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the overall tonality is brighter and more vibrant in the original with the whites tending more to cream hues and deeper reds overall. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There is slight canvas draw in the upper corners of the composition. There are some handling marks in places along the edges, most notably to the lower left corner and upper section of the right edge. There are networks of stable hairline drying cracks scattered throughout, inherent to the artist's impasto technique. Upon close inspection there are stable craquelures to the cream and mustard yellow pigment, and a circular pattern of impact cracks towards the lower left corner of the composition which resulted in 3cm circular area of paint lifting. Two retouches in the upper right quadrant, only visible under ultraviolet light.
