This work appears to be in very good condition. There are few minor and unobtrusive paint losses by the overlap in correspondance of the stretcher's edge. No traces of retouching are visible under UV light.

"Isolare oggetti o gruppi di essi, al centro dei vasti spazi come ad accentuarne la solitudine e, contemporaneamente, mettere in atto una complessa regia luminosa che leghi queste presenze tra loro con un intrico di ombre sono, a partire dalla metà del decennio, due strategie che l'artista conduce spesso insieme. (...) Nei secondi anni Cinquanta, in contemporanea all'esecuzione e all'esposizione di quadri come questi dove le cose appaiono isolate e dominate da un misterioso (e per molto angoscioso) silenzio, riesce agevole interpretare Morandi alla luce delle nuove poetiche esistenzialiste."
