Description

  • gold, silver, emerald, diamond, bracelet
The flexible strap set in the center with a square emerald-cut emerald weighing approximately 6.00 carats, flanked by antique cushion-shaped diamonds weighing approximately 27.25 carats, accented by old mine diamonds, length 6¾ inches.

Condition

Accompanied by AGL report no. CS 42860 stating that emerald is of Colombian origin, clarity enhancement: faint. The emerald is a rich medium deep very slightly bluish green color and is of good clarity. The emerald is a shallow cut allowing light and/or skin to show through the stone. Set with 5 antique cushion-shaped diamonds weighing approximately 4.00 cts, 4.00 cts, 7.00 cts, 6.50 cts and 5.75 cts. The diamonds could not be unmounted for testing given the period mounting and we belive them to be colorless to near-colorless and VS to SI clarity, graded insofar as mounting permits. Also set with 276 old mine diamonds weighing approximately 10.10 cts and of approximately I-L color and SI-I clarity. Exceptionally flexible, supple and well made. In good condition.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by AGL report no. CS 42860 stating that emerald is of Colombian origin, clarity enhancement: faint.

The stones set within this bracelet were originally incorporated in a traditional Indian jewel.  Remounted in the late 19th century, the current bracelet design reflects the ascendancy of the British during that time which resulted in the infusion of English manners, customs and European fashions into India.  It shows a marked Europeanization of design that became the preferred jewelry style of Indian royalty into the 20th century.

The change in taste resulted in lighter mounts with the reverse devoid of any enamelling, open-backed claw settings and faceted gemstones.
