Catalogue Note

Masriera was founded by José Masriera Vidal in 1840.  They became one of the most important jewellers in Spain at the turn of the Century.  Lluís Masriera son of José studied under the enamellist  Edouard Lossier in Geneva, he used the themes of the Art Nouveau movement in his jewels well into the 1920s.  Masriera was joined by the Carreras jewellery firm in 1915 and from then jewels were signed under the joint name.  Designs using the techniques were employed in even later jewels.
