Description

  • ENAMEL, DIAMOND, EMERALD, RUBY, SILVER AND GOLD
To a central painted enamel image depicting Cleopatra wearing ruby and diamond jewels, framed by a coiled serpent the head inset with an oval emerald to graduated rose diamonds, signed A.Golay L. & Fils, Geneve, hinged bail.

Condition

Mounted in silver and gold. Swiss Enamel with minor surface damage. Estimated total diamond weight approximately 2.00 - 2.50 carats in total, bright, lively stones. Emerald with typical inclusions visible with magnification, nicks to facet junctions, rubies well matched in colour, nicks visible with magnification. Scratches to mount consistent with age and wear. In very good condition.

Catalogue Note

Auguste Golay-Leresche (1814-1895) a talented watch and clockmaker renowned both nationally and internationally, winning many medals and awards for his craftsmanship.  Auguste's business was founded in 1837 on quai des Bergues in Geneva, that year he married Susanne Leresche, who was also a watchmaker and associated her name with the company too.  The business was later sold to Mr. Stahl at the turn of the century.
