Heuer released this model, Ref. 1133, the Monaco, in 1969. It gets its name from the Monaco Grand Prix, one of the greatest and most famous auto races in the World.
The watch would become famous in the 1971 Steve McQueen auto racing film 'Le Mans'. The actor was inspired to wear one in the film after seeing it on the wrist of his friend, the racing legend Jo Siffert.
The present watch was given to the current owner by the Swiss Grand Prix driver Gianclaudio 'Clay' Regazzoni. He competed in Formula One races for Ferrari, BRM, Ensign, Shadow and Williams from 1970 to 1980, winning five Grands Prix.
