Condition

Overall in very good condition. There are approximately 45-50 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout the shade, which is a reasonable number in proportion to the vast number of glass tiles which were required to execute this complex monumental shade. The shade is slightly out of round, and one quadrant appears to have been gently pushed inward. As is commonly seen with this model, a few of the panicle tips along the bottom irregular border are very slightly bent inward. There are two very small adjacent areas just below the top shoulder of the shade (located in the quadrant noted above) that may possibly represent an old period repair. The leading in this area around a few of the leaves adjacent to the bronze branches is slightly heavier-handed. (Nonetheless, the patina on this shade leading is consistent with the rest of the shade and does not show any irregularities when examined under UV light.) On the interior of the shade, there are a few scattered traces of what appears to be surface calcifications on the glass (which are not visibly apparent on the exterior of the shade when illuminated). The shade leading throughout is finely articulated with refined lines, and displays a rich russet brown patina. The bronze base shows minimal wear, with some occasional light surface scratches and abrasions, and light rubbing to the patina consistent with age and gentle use. With four period sockets and base switch. A highly artistic and naturalistic example of Tiffany's iconic wisteria lamp, articulated in vibrant pastel shades of cobalt blue and purple. The leaves are atypically rendered in varying shades of green and coral, and the wisteria tips are sensitively accented with translucent turquoise glass. Select glass is rippled on the shade interior, imparting the lamp with great visual depth. The lamp presents beautifully in person, and its glass is more subtle and vibrant than seen in the catalogue illustrations, which are slightly too dense. The overall palette is a cool cobalt blue with deeper purple accents, and not as red as in the catalogue illustrations. It can be assumed that the shade and base originated together and have never been separated, as the impressed numbers on both of these components are identical.
