Condition

Overall in very good condition. With approximately 12-15 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout the shade. The shade leading and reticulated bronze overlays are beautifully rendered with refined lines and display a rich russet brown and green patina. The rare favrile ball base is in very good condition. All of the favrile glass balls appear to be original and undisturbed. One glass ball has a tight internal hairline crack. This internal crack is not visible on the exterior surface of the glass ball, and is only visible when closely examining the base with a strong light. The patinated bronze base with some occasional light surface scratches, abrasions and rubbing to the patina consistent with wear and gentle use. There is a small area of patina loss (3/8 x 1/4 inch) near the perimeter border of the base. With period sockets and switches which all appear undisturbed, and with period finial. The threaded pin on the underside of finial does not extend long enough to meet the base wheel, so the finial simply sits on top of the shade (if desired the threaded pin could be easily replaced and lengthened). The shade and base present beautifully together as a unit, representing the ideal pairing for this model. The shade displays an outstanding artistic glass selection, most notably in the wide range of deep reds and oranges articulating the poppy blossoms and the extraordinary background glass. The background glass is intensely striated to create great visual interest on every side of the shade, displaying a spectacular range of saturated aqua blue and cobalt glass boldly striated with varying shades of green, yellow and pink. The colors of the glass are more vibrant and show far greater artistic nuances than seen in the catalogue illustrations, which are all slightly too dark and over saturated. A superb example of the model.
