Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade is slightly out of round, with approximately 50 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout, which is a reasonable number in proportion to the vast number of glass tiles which were required to execute this complex monumental shade. The shade was recently cleaned and stabilized by a professional Tiffany conservator, and as a preventative measure approximately ten cracks were stabilized with Hextal (an archival clear resin which is proven not to discolor over time). The shade leading is beautifully rendered with exceptionally refined lines, and displays a rich russet brown and green patina. The base is an outstanding example of the model, with exceptional casting and a deep rich russet brown and green patina. The base with occasional surface abrasions and rubbing to the patina consistent with age and use. All of the hardware (riser, socket cluster and socket casings, wheel and finial) appears original and undisturbed to the lamp. The interior of the sockets and pull chains are later replacements (one pull chain has detached but is safely secured with the lamp). The enlarged wheel and finial which accompany this lamp appear to be custom period components by Tiffany Studios to facilitate the pairing of this large-scaled shade and base model. The finial with light wear and rubbing to the patina, and with a few very minor shallow indentations. A beautiful example of this rare shade model with a strongly saturated and artistic glass selection. The colors of the glass are more vibrant and display far greater artistic nuances than seen in the catalogue illustrations, which are slightly too dark and over saturated. The lamp presents beautifully in person, with great visual interest and presence.
