Catalogue Note

Similar ball-shaped desk timepieces on stands are illustrated in Barracca, J, Le Temps de Cartier, p171 & 188. These examples have quite straight forward stands whereas the present model possesses a considerably more dramatic look with the four realistically formed cobra heads. This could be inspired by the discovery of Tutankharmun's tomb in 1922.
