Description

Designed as a series of tonneau-shaped curved plaques, depicting birds in flight, a lizard and Aztec inspired deity, set with calibré-cut and buff top sapphires, emeralds, rubies, coral, turquoise, onyx and accented with variously cut diamonds, to pierced and engraved backgrounds of foliate and organic motifs and two carved bone plaques, length approximately 185mm, French import mark and Spanish assay mark, one small sapphire deficient.

Condition

Spanish assay mark for 18 carat gold. Diamonds weighing approximately 1.20 carats, bright and lively stones. Emeralds approximately 1.35 carats, medium to medium light green, different saturation. Sapphires 4.70 carats, medium to medium dark blue, different saturation. One sapphire deficient. Carved bone yellowish white, discolouration to underside. Stiff but secure clasp, safety catch to side. Safety chain deficient, loops for safety chain probably later, one with trace of solder. Reverse of link nearest to tongue with small solder repair and additional gold section, to lower part of plaque where edge is split two places, could benefit from attention by a professional jeweller. In good condition.

Catalogue Note

Reminiscant of the work of the artisan and Catalan jeweller Fuset y Grau.  Very little is published about his jewellery, pieces of his work were exhibited in the Decorative Arts Exhibition 1925 in Paris.
