- A Portrait Snuff Box
- the box 6 by 8 cm.; 2 1/4 by 3 1/8 in.; the miniature 3.5 by 2.8 cm.; 1 1/2 by 1 1/16 in.
rectangular, the gold-lined tortoiseshell box set with foliate chased mounts, the lid applied with an oval miniature of a gentleman within a split-pearl frame

Condition
The miniature is preserved in fine condition and the colours remain fresh. There is a minor scuff to the extreme edge of the miniature, centre left. The box condition is as seen.

Catalogue Note
It is possible that the sitter could be Beriah Botfield (1807-1863) when a young man. The features are very similar to the portrait of Botfield painted by Thomas Phillips in 1828 (Longleat House, Wiltshire).
