Catalogue Note

This life-size group of a girl surrounded by doves is a very rare work by the sculptor-writer Stanislas Lami. Lami was the son of a sculptor, Alphonse Lami, and he followed in his fathers footsteps exhibiting regularly at the Salon. Stanislas was prolific in his writing, famously producing the many volumes of his dictionary of French sculptors, which spanned from the Medieval age to the end of the 19th century. This charming group amply testifies to his skill as a marble carver.
