Saint Anna wearing a purple maphorion, the Mother of God wearing a red maphorion and holding white lilies as a symbol of purity, the reverse of the icon mounted with a commemorative silver-gilt plaque:  To Her Imperial Majesty the Empress Maria Fedorovna, presented with reverence from the Russian Afonsky Monastery of the Great Martyr St. Panteleimon, in the Month of May 1893
