Canvas is lined. SURFACE: in fair condition; work is painted with thick impasto and there are areas of deep crackle where pigment has lifted slightly--most visible on the robed figure with finger pointing (on his robes)--a paint loss from flaking for this reason at center right (just to the left of the shadowy red figure)--more lifting at upper right in background (looks like there may be old repair here) UNDER ULTRA VIOLET: impossible to see through dark pigment and old varnish; signature may be added
