This painting has been recently restored. The canvas is lined. The paint layer is clean, varnished and retouched. At some point the canvas was probably rolled and during this process a series of vertical cracks developed throughout the picture. These cracks have been subdued by the lining, but in the sky they have been quite vigorously retouched. The buildings and the foreground show a few retouches here and there yet none of any consequence or that are surprising for a picture of this period. The sky not only has retouches addressing numerous cracks but some augmentation of the paint layer has also taken place, and this is an area with a good deal of conservation.
