Condition

This painting on thick cardboard has been mounted onto very lightweight pieces of Styrofoam and although this is a unique form of support, it is by no means harmful and in fact seems to conserve the picture very well. The paint layer itself appears to be unvarnished and is un-cleaned; this is not to say that it is noticeably dirty, but it does have a patina. Under ultraviolet light there is what may be a small retouch in the upper right corner yet elsewhere there appear to be no restorations. Clearly this picture is in beautiful state and no change to the support is recommended, however, some care would need to be taken when handling the work for framing. One could investigate to see if the paint layer has an easily removable layer of airborne dirt, yet varnishing it is not encouraged and cleaning would have to be very carefully done, if at all. There is a small loss in the lower right corner and the edges are a little scruffy. Overall however, the picture is in very good state.
