Description

  • The Lamentation
  • oil on panel

Condition

Single panel, uncradled. Verso of panel has horizontal wooden strip running across panel for reinforcement. Painting is covered in a slightly yellow varnish and might benefit nicely from a small cleaning. A series of vertical scratches are visible under U.V., which run mostly through the middle section of the panel. Under U.V. light these over painted scratches fluoresce and seem to lay above the aforementioned varnish. This varnish appears to cover a few smaller repairs and retouchings underneath but these small repairs are mostly indecipherable. There are no major losses to the panel, as can be seen in the catalogue, and the majority of retouchings are to repair minor nicks. The painting is in a carved and giltwood frame.
