Description

  • 198cm. 6ft. 6in. high
10-inch dial with winged cherub spandrels, signed Edw Burgis Londini Fecit, matted centre with seconds dial and date aperture, the movement with four latched vase-turned pillars, anchor escapement, bolt and shutter maintaining power, internal locking plate striking on a bell, the associated case with flat top moulded cornice, foliate frieze fret and spiral pilasters to the rising hood, replaced rectangular trunk door with ivorine plaque for Percy Webster, the plinth with later moulded base, the whole veneered with panels of oysters and marquetry flowers and leaves on an ebony ground

Condition

Dial clean, chapter ring worn, matting possibly refreshed, hands replaced. Movement in generally good condition and appears to retain the original wheelwork, escapewheel possibly replaced, bell stand moved from front to back, bolt and shutter maintaining power re-instated. The associated and restored case with replaced trunk door veneered to match the plinth, stiles altered, plinth with later moulded base but retaining the original sockets for bun feet. With pendulum, two brass-cased weights, winder and case key.
