Provenance

Just thirty chairs of this design were made for the holiday home of Emile Van der Velde at Oostduinkerke, Belgium. Of these only ten, including the present chair, were saved when the building was demolished in 1996.

Condition

A stylish and rare model of good overall appearance. Piece has undergone sympathetic restoration by Marc Hotermans, Anderlecht. Supports have been re-ebonised. Old marks and scratches in places consistent with age and use. One of the struts to the seat slightly warped to the right, consistent with age and not readily noticeable nor affecting its role in any way. One or two old cracks in places consistent with age. Of good structural condition. A striking piece, ready for use and display.
