each carved utilising the natural formations of the bamboo root, the smaller incised to one side with the signature Shiling, the seal face carved with the characters jiang shang and the pictogram of zhou, the other carved with characters in archaic seal script depicting the pictogram of man san

Catalogue Note

Zhu Shulin (dates unknown, c.18th century), zi Shiling or Nirui, hao Xumui shan ren and Da Bei an ju, was a native of Dongting county, Suzhou.  He was a talented poet and painter, and is known for his depiction of orchid flowers.
