Catalogue Note

George Leslie Hunter first visited Paris c.1904, having returned from San Francisco where he moved after his family made the long journey back to Scotland from California where his father had invested in an orange farm just outside Los Angeles. This charming sketch of a Parisian café scene clearly displays Hunter's energetic and confident style. A work of comparable date entitled Poultry Market, Paris is in The Hunterian Art Gallery at Glasgow University.
