  • Two similar Verona marble recumbent lions
  • 12 1/2 by 17 in.
  • 31.7 by 43.2 cm.

Condition

General rubbing, chipping and wear consistent with age; faces of lions rubbed smooth; some inclusions, fissures, and color variation in the marble as expected. Right front leg of one of the lions with possible repair. Grime in recesses and scattered lichen remnants. Drill holes in bases where columns were attached, and additional old drill holes to the top rear of one lion. Note that though they were conceived together, they are not an identical pair, with design variations as visible in the catalogue photograph.
