Catalogue Note

In this impressive Orientalist group of a slave kneeling before his princess, Dumaige epitomizes the Western fascination with exotic destinations so popular during the 19th century. Dumaige exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1863 to 1886. He was a student of Augustin Alexandre Dumont and Jean-Jacques Feuchère.
