mounted, signed by the photographer in pencil on the mount, his Carmel studio stamp (BMFA 11), titled and dated by him in ink, on the reverse, matted, 1937, printed between 1973-77 (Autobiography, p. 227; Lane Collection, pl. 45; Grand Canyon and the Southwest, p. 37; Letters and Images, p. 99; Morgan & Morgan, pl. 42; Classic Images, pl. 14; 400 Photographs, cover and p. 57; Faces, p. 426)

Condition

This print is in good to very good condition. There is minor edge chipping along the periphery of the print, most noticeably at the upper left and bottom left edges. The following are visible in raking light: three , minor linear scratches in the upper right corner of the print; faint disturbances in the upper center of the print, all of which do not break the emulsion. There is a scattering of small elements of foxing on the front of the mount and there is a faint outlne around the periphery of the print from a previous windowed overmat. The reverse of the mount is heavily foxed, particularly on the left and right side. Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. Our dating of this print is based upon the authors' assessment of the use dates of stamp 11 on the reverse of this print: 1973 through 1977.
