Description

  • Peter Beard
  • 'Cheetah orphans at Warden Woodley's in Mweiga (for the End of the Game)', 1968
Silver print, with ink decorated border. Signed, titled and dated in ink in the image at the lower edge. Printed later.

Literature

Beard, Peter, Portraits, Areana Editions, Santa Fe, 1999, p. 176 (variant).

Condition

The ink in the border has been applied with vigour, and there are light ink splashes in the central (photographic) portion of the image - these concentrated around the ink-burst at upper left and in smaller droplets scattered over a wider area above and to the right of the right-hand cheetah. These are entirely consistent with Mr. Beard's practice. The print has a very light wave in the upper right, not troublesome. It has a good (photographic) surface with only a very few very light scuffs. The most noticeable of these is a thin surface linear mark (less than 1mm, and with no element whatever of incision) which runs from the right-hand cheetah at shoulder level to the image edge. This not obtrusive under normal viewing conditions. Edges and corners all-but unmarked. The reverse ink-stained and bearing the marks of the drying-clips used at the time of production. Overall a print in quite excellent condition.
