Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The thin copper panel has been backed with wood ; it is in good condition with only minor deformations to the upper area. There is repaired damage upper left and two repaired losses to the mid-ground right in the mountains. The paint layer is stable but there has been substantial reinforcing of the paint to the sky and water( perhaps reducing the impact of a dominant ground colour, as seen in the middle distance ), there appears to be little paint loss. The mountains and the figures are in a good condition. A slight tonal improvement would be achieved with the removal of the varnish layer. Offered in an ebonised inlaid frame, good condition."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
