The painting is less pink and smoother than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas is offered unframed. It appears to have been recently cleaned, restored and relined. The paint surface is thus secure and to the naked eye no damages are visible. However, under UV light quite extensive retouchings and strengthenings are visible, notably centre and lower right, under the Madonna's chin and above Jesus' head. Along the lower and right edge a line of restoration can be made out- it is not clear if this was past frame abrasion or a restored tear- but this is not obtrusive to the naked eye.
