Condition

The catalogue illustrations are representative of the paintings. The canvasses have been relined and they are offered in old differently shaped carved wood and gold painted frames with some damages. First painting: Some losses are visible on his clothes and some restoration scattered also on his hat and on his face. Second painting: To the naked eye some scattered restoration is visible, the most important is four lines of restoration, two vertical and two diagonal on the dark background, partly interfering with his hat, face and right shoulder. Third painting: Some scattered restoration is visible, mainly located on the border of his mantle. Fourth painting: Some restoration and a major damage on his left shoulder are visible to the naked eye. Fifth painting: Scattered restoration can be found on his clothes, on his hat and on his face. Sixth painting: A loss on his left shoulder and some restoration on the upper and left margins can be seen to the naked eye. Major restoration is visible on his hat and on the dark background between the letters together with two horizontal lines running left to right, one interfering with his neck and beard and one with his eyebrow. Seventh painting: To the naked eye a cut running from his moustache to his chest (about 15 cm.) can be found as well as a little loss on the background above his hat and some restoration scattered, the more visible on his left shoulder. Eighth painting: Lot of restoration can be found on the background, on his face, on his hat and his clothes. The afore-mentioned restoration can be seen from the catalogue illustrations as well and is confirmed by the inspection under ultra-violet light.
