Description

  • Tiziano Vecellio, called Titian
  • Head of a soldier
  • oil on canvas, unframed

Condition

The canvas has an old relining. The paint surface is under a dirty varnish. There is an r-shaped 2 cm by 2 cm in the sitter's hat and a partially restored r-shaped tear 5 cm by 5cm to the sitter's costume. There is a further restored and patched damage of aprox 1 cm by 1 cm and a couple of other minor restored damages. There is a small tear above the sitter's left eye. Thorough inspection under UV light is rendered impossible by the varnish but some strengthenings are apparent. Unframed.
