Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The oak panel has been cradled to reinforce two vertical joins; these are stable, as is the panel, but have old restoration down them. The background paint to the right of the sitter's head has been augmented where it is thin and the grain of the panel is raised. Further minor restorations can be detected to the face and hair. In a good well preserved condition with excellent paint quality to the jacket and collar. The varnish is slightly discoloured, removing it would improve the tonality. Offered in a black lacquered frame with some damages."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
