Catalogue Note

The three gores provide pretty much complete coverage of the modern United States, omitting only the north-western extremity of the island of California. As geographer to the French King, Coronelli was able to call on the best contemporary French sources for his maps, but these gores are also  notable for the errors - California as an island and the mouth of the Mississippi placed in western Texas -and  the finely drawn ethnographic scenes.
