Condition

The painting is in good condition. The canvas has been relined and appears to be clear and taut. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals spots of retouching on the upper edge of painting, probably due to abrasion from previous frame. General retouching is found under the tree and a few spots on the lake. Retouching is visible only under ultraviolet light. The colours of the actual painting are richer and the overall play of dark and light are more dramatic in reality.
