Description

Each of stylised star design collet-set to the centre with a square step-cut emerald within a border of old mine and rose-cut diamonds.

Condition

Metal tested as silver and yellow gold. The emeralds are gauged to weigh approximately 4.60 carats each (as gauged in the mount), a yellowish green hue with good saturation of colour. Typical crystal inclusions, some surface reaching and minor abrasions. One emerald with a chip. Lively stones, well matched in colour. Diamonds estimated to weigh approximately 3.80 carats in total, for the most part overall H-J colour, VS-SI clarity as gauged in the mounts. Good brilliance. Signs of normal wear to the metal, scratches consistent with use, in good condition.

Catalogue Note

The title of Duque de Plasencia was created by the Catholic monarch Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castille, in 1476 for Don Álvaro de Zúñiga y Guzmán of a very ancient noble family.  The family grew in wealth and importance throughout the centuries and by the end of the 19th Century the Ducal house of Osuna which included several Noble families as well as the Duke of Plasencia; this was one of the most important and influential aristocratic houses in Spain together with that of the Dukes of Alba.
