Description

The stylized strap set with 38 cushion-shaped and oval rubies weighing approximately 70.00 carats and with numerous round, single-cut, square-cut and baguette diamonds weighing approximately 5.60 carats, mounted in platinum, length 6¾ inches, French assay marks.

Provenance

Important Private Collection, Sotheby's Milan, June 9, 2004, lot 321.

Condition

See three AGL reports stating that three random stones are 4.98 ct Cushion Antique Mixed cut, 3.77 ct Oval Mixed cut and 2.75 ct Cushion Antique Mixed Cut. These three stones are of Burmese Origin, no heat enhancement. The remainder of the rubies are a medium very slightly pinkish to purplish red color (deeper shade of red than indicated by the catalogue illustration) and are moderately included. Many of those inclusions reach the surface, and most of the stones are lightly abraded and a few are chipped, but all seem to be stable. The diamonds are approximately H-I color and SI clarity. Very flexible and well made and in good condition overall. Fitted with a sliding safety closure underneath the clasp. With french assay marks.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by three AGL reports nos. CS 39433, CS 39434 and CS 39435 stating that three of the rubies are of Burmese origin; heat enhancement: none.
