Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, instructions, within a maroon leather folder.  Further accompanied by a presentation case with outer card box.

As Patek affirms "the spilt seconds mechanism is at least as difficult a complication to master as a minute repeater or a tourbillon." For this reason production numbers are small for this "Grande Complication" piece, with approximately only 10 pieces made per year. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time REF. 5959 has been offered at auction.

In 2005, Patek Philippe introduced the reference 5959, a new split seconds chronograph wristwatch and the company's first fully 'in house' chronograph calibre (CHR 27-525PS). This model is the thinnest column-wheel-controlled split seconds chronograph ever made measuring a record-breaking 5.25mm.  Only available in platinum and cased in a traditional Officer-style, the watch is testament to the importance with which Patek Philippe equates the split seconds complication.
