Condition

Extremely rare and collectable! To the best of our knowledge, only No. 1 of each metal is hand-engraved 'Number One'. Automatic movement is running while cataloguing. Minute repeating sound is rich in tone and well-paced. Dial is very sleek and clean. Case and buckle with no significant signs of wear. Case hinge and repeating slide operating smoothly and firmly. Inside and outside of case back retains crisp hallmarks, stamps and factory engraving. Case back engraved 'Number One'. Inside of case back stamped "JHP', which is a mark of the case maker (Jean-Pierre Hagmann). Case back numbered '2833916' and '5029'. **The leather strap of this watch is made from endangered species, please refer to important notices for further information**.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production in 1996 with opaline-white dial, 11 applied Breguet numerals and dots minute scale in rose gold and its sale on October 24th, 1997.

The rare limited edition minute-repeating chronometer was developed by Patek Philippe in 1997 for the opening of their new factory in Geneva. Only 10 pieces of 5029R were produced in pink gold, emphasizing the exceptional rarity of the present lot in the market. The piece is exquisitely cased in the officer-style by Jean-Pierre Hagmann, Master Case maker for Patek Philippe. The distinctive opaline dial adds luster to the extremely rare commemorative piece, and is perfectly suited for the seasoned collector. Jean-Pierre Hagmann was born in Geneva in 1940. During his career as a Master Case maker, Hagmann worked with the top techicans and skilled artisan in their workshops, including Ponti Gennari, Gay Freres, G. Brera, J-P Ecoffery and G. Crosier. In 1984, Jean-Pierre Hagmann established his own company with his unique master case maker's mark: JHP. He bought or made all the machinery and benches he needed to be independent. Today Jean-Pierre Hagmann is the point of reference for the case-making and without doubt the most skilled artisan still working in this field. His extraordinary personal production has included 1500 cases for minute repeating wristwatches, at least a third of which were made for Patek Philippe. The present lot REF. 5029R was produced in a very limited series of only 10 pieces in 18k pink gold, 10 examples in 18k yellow gold and 10 pieces in platinum. The case back fo this exceptional example is engraved "Number 1". rendering it even more prestigious. To the best of out knowledge, only the first in each series as exclusively engraved by the Master Case Maker for Patek Philippe, Jean-Pierre Hagmann. The present example offered at auction is distinguished by the truly exceptional clarity of its minute repeating sound. With cal. R27 PS at the heart, Patek Philippe achieves an exceptionally crisp sound quality for this high complication, employing acoustic steel for the minute repeating gongs. The 18k pink gold Officer-style case and sapphire crystal display back further enhance the resonance, producing truly exquisite tones from within its classically-styled case.
