Catalogue Note

Accompanied by an Extract from the Archives confirming production in 1953 and sale on August 23rd, 1956.

Reference 1463 was produced from 1940 until circa 1965. Research shows that approximately 270 examples with a regular dial in yellow gold were made, of which just 85 are now known from the market. One of the most coveted of all Patek Philippe chronograph references, it is especially favoured for its water-resistant type case with rounded pushers and screw-down case back. The cases of the reference 1463 were made for Patek Philippe by Taubert (formely Frerès Borgel) who were specialised in the manufacture of first quality water-resistant type watch cases. The addition of a dust or humidity proof cover further helped to protect the watch movement.

The present wristwatch is especially notable for its fine two-tone silvered dial, the second brighter tone is contained within the outer chronograph seconds track which eases the recording of time when the chronograph is activated. The placement of the second tone is more unusual than most two-tone dials since the majority of examples feature a second tone only at the outer extremity of the dial.
