Catalogue Note

The Aramaic inscription reads:  "And crowned with many crowns by the Holy King" (Zohar: Shemot, Parshat Terumah 135:b).

Born in Israel in 1935, Moshe Zabari trained at  the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem.  He was invited in 1961 by the New York Jewish Museum to work with Ludwig Wolpert as an artist-in-residence at the Tobe Pascher Workshop where he later became director. Zabari returned to Israel in 1988.

Zabari has exhibited extensively since 1960. His works are held in numerous museums, including The Jewish Museum, New York, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Smithsonian Institute, the Spertus Museum of Judaica, the HUC Skirball Cultural Center and Museum, and the Israel Museum.
