  • bronze à belle patine brune ; les socles en porphyre et marbre

Vénus debout, son corps enveloppé en un voile, accompagnée de Cupidon, muni d'un arc et de son carquois ; Mars s'appuyant sur un bouclier et adossé contre un tronc d'arbre, tient une épée à la main (la pointe manquante)

Condition

Very fine and precise casts in all details. As can be seen on the photograph, the patina is scratched and partly rubbed off in several places, especially to his chest and legs. The tip of the sword is broken off. Minor chips to the edges of the marble bases.

Catalogue Note

Ces statuettes de petit format, destinées aux cabinets d'amateur, se distinguent par la qualité de leur fonte et la finesse des détails. Déjà Weihrauch y reconnut la main de Sébastien Slodtz (1655-1726), en se fondant sur l'analogie avec son Hannibal en marbre grandeur nature (Louvre, inv. MR2093), et attribue la réalisation de la fonte de ces modèles au fils de Slodtz.
